Note: To even try to get back to any pre-installed version of your system (without rebuilding or using a backup), you must uninstall in the exact reverse order of the installations including backing out all 'cleaner' actions, etc, as they occured anywhere within the chain of installs, etc. If/when you uninstall product#1 it will put back the files & registry entries that were there when it was installed! Thus the OS files & registry entries now may be a mix of pre-product#1 and post-product#2 installs! You've probably scrambled the registry, definitely broken the chain of backups, probably have a miss-match of OS files, and likely have only part of the product#2 toolset in place. The reason: These toolsets typically backup and then overlay multiple OS files & registry entries. likely an impossible task for most people.įirst: Don't assume anything & play it very safe/conservative with your registry, the OS, and any/all toolsets that may play with either!
if I am not 100% sure of what it wants to clean/delete I do NOT let it clean/delete it. Since CCleaner is a very isolated/self-contained product (if you watch/limit the install) and does give you the choice of what registry entries to remove, I do have it also installed and will use it occasionally. I am very conservative and when I have any doubt I don't let it do its thing! I never 'assume' its choices of what to clean/delete are correct for my PC. But I agree with #50 (Frank D) and limit my use of the toolset to (maybe even less than) what he indicates.

I have been a (very conservative) user of free version of ASC for years. All the while cussing at toolset#2 which in this case had nothing to do with the problem!

Thus: Typically when you run toolset#2 again (or some other kind of heavy OS dependent software): it bombs, your back-ups can't fix the problem (and may actually make the problem worse), and finally you must rebuild the PC from scratch to "get it working" again.
This typically will fatally damage the registry and/or the backups and/or the OS and/or the new toolset! When the PC craps out a week later (or after they run the product#2 toolset again) they blame the new toolset not realizing their uninstall of the old toolset probably caused the problem. I've found many PCs screwed up because the end-user assumed they could safely uninstall the product#1 toolset since the product#2 toolset installed/seems to be working OK.

I NEVER install multiple anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-adware, and/or "cleaner" toolsets at a time (i.e.: a trial version of product#2 over my current version of product#1)! every vendors toolset makes assumptions which may or may not be correct for my PC. I've always been leery of file/registry cleaners no matter who they're peddled by. you quite possibly did it yourself by not understanding your PC/system and/or how installs/back-ups work. Second: Don't assume it's the cleaner toolsets fault your system has been hosed over and you back-ups don't work. During that time I've learned a few things.įirst: Don't assume anything & play it very safe/conservative with your registry, the OS, and any/all toolsets that may play with either!
